Rodney Hamel paints Maungakawa
This landscape is seen from a birds eye view, looking down Maungakawa Hill to the distant mountain range on the horizon. Maungakawa Hill is a favourite subject of Hamel, who has produced a number of variations of this scene.
Rodney Hamel was born and educated in Dunedin and gained an MA (hons) in History from the University of Otago. He began exhibiting his work in 1982 and has gone on to have shows in the Waikato, Dunedin and Queenstown. Hamel spent 30 years teaching in the Waikato before returning to Dunedin in 2004.
